Hotel Jen Manila just launched its Get.Set.Eat initiative. Think home-grown producers, local flavors and authentic regional food and beverage cultures ...
Ever tried Ginataang Turon before? No?
Here's your chance. Starting today March 18 up to the 24th , Hotel Jen Manila puts the spotlight on two of the country’s favourite merienda/snacks - Ginataang Turon and Kakanin at the Hotel Lobby Pop-up Stall.
Turon an ubiquitous Filipino snack, is a spring roll-like dessert or merienda which includes slices of saba /banana with jackfruit , fried to a golden-brown and dusted with brown sugar.
Hotel Jen's Chef's added a little layer of richness to the flavor by including a coconut-cream-ube sauce/dip which when combined with the Turon is like eating a combination of Ginataan ( another iconic Pinoy merienda) with Turon. Thus the label.
Kakanin , a family favorite, is a staple dessert and merienda which is made with malagkit or sticky rice and is normally cooked with coconut cream. Among the selection of Kakanin are their espasol, suman, kalamay, to name a few.
From March 18 to 24, hotel guests will be able to sample these “kakanin” through Aging’s Food Delight and its entrepreneur Mrs. Agapita Mercado and her husband Gregorio Mercado. The couple established their business in 2013 and today employs workers who are mostly single mothers and unemployed housewives – a wonderful advocacy Mrs. Mercado believes and practices.
