It was a hot day in Bonifacio High Street when handsome hubby decided to accompany me on a spur-of-the-moment food crawl, just the two of us.
Nanyang is the 2nd stop to our unplanned food adventure. I have already tried Nanyang at SM Aura before, with some foodie friends. Kaya Toast was a surprise favorite...
and that mountain of butter was a sight to behold.
You know what? You can make your own Kaya toast at home... !
KAYA TOAST 101
What you will need :
2 pcs tasty bread (gardenia slices)
Kaya ( Malay for coconut jam)
Salted Butter
Oven toaster
What you need to do:
1. Cut all sides of your white bread. Toast both sides lightly in a griller or oven toaster
What is Kaya ?
"Kaya Toast is a well-known snack in Singapore and Malaysia. Kaya toast is prepared with kaya (coconut jam), a topping of sugar, coconut milk and eggs, pandan and sometimes margarine or butter.
Kaya is generally served on toast and also sometimes on crackers. It is considered a breakfast staple and remainspopular in Singapore. The dish is sometimes dipped in soft-boiled egg mixed with drops of dark soy sauce and sprinkle of white pepper " - Wikipedia

Nope not cheese. Check out these ready slices of butter at Nanyang |
4. Order a soft boiled egg with your Kaya Toast. Mix with some soy sauce then finish with white pepper. You are now ready to dip your toast in the egg mix. Enjoy the full experience just like they do in Singapore
5. Enjoy!
Overall...
Kaya toast is now a favorite. I can not wait to go back to Singapore or visit Malaysia to try the original and compare it with their local franchise. Love the combo with the soft boiled egg. Exactly the creaminess the dish needed to complement the crunchy texture of the toast and to cut through the sweetness of the kaya and the richness of the butter.
Also have my eye on replicating at home with coconut jam instead.
Check them out and let me know what you think.
Nanyang is located at Bonifacio High Street inside Bread Talk at B7 Lane P.
