Had a date with bunso for lunch earlier. He skipped classes today with our blessing on account of an important errand that can not be ignored.
At any rate after the errand found ourselves in SM Megamall scouring the restaurants at Mega Fashion Hall for whichever type of food that will catch bunso's fancy.
Although bunso will be graduating from high school and is a lot taller than me, I still see the little boy who loved to cling to my skirt whenever I had to leave the house for work.
Oh well sentiments aside, it was a beautiful day to bond with my youngest piglet hehe.
Origins of Kam's Roast
- It began in 1942 when Mr. Kam Shui Fai started Yung Kee Restaurant
- Yung Kee became an internationally renowned restaurant
- Kam Roast Goose is their well known and best selling dish
What we loved...
We ordered the TORO plate or bbq pork belly (P400 +) beautifully seared outside, moist and tender inside. Bunso was very happy with it. He ate everything including the fat. It was supposed to feed 2 but I was only able to eat about 2 slices chewing and savoring each mouthful. When I looked up from my musing, the whole plate was wiped out haha
I love century eggs so I made sure I ordered a serving to enjoy that day. Creamy, savory and earthy, my palate was sighing in contentment. I can not however finished the two sliced I ordered. So I had a half portion taken out for enjoyment at home.
We also ordered soy chicken with rice for take out. Sadly I forgot to take a photo of it. It had gravy and ginger sauce to dip the soy chicken in.
Overall....
I spent P1,002 pesos for lunch which included an order of a plate of Toro, take out order of soy chicken with rice and an order of century eggs. At P500 each ( there were just two of us), it was a little expensive.
The toro and the soy chicken were really delicious though. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth and bunso and I loved the balance of sweetness and savory notes. The soy chicken were also tender and scrumptious. I dipped the chicken in the ginger sauce which perfectly complemented the soy chicken.
I am not a fan of roasted goose so I did not really miss it. The family had already experienced this particular fowl during several trips in HK over the years. Let's just say we prefer the toro and the soy chicken over the KRG
Anyway going back to Kam's Roast Mega, our yummy enjoyment of the dishes was marred somewhat by the too dry rice. Oh well , at least it prevented me from indulging in this white carbs. Less calories for this forever-on-a-diet mom.
Kam's Roast is located at the third floor Mega Fashion Hall SM Megamall Ortigas
