Did you know?...
- The first Dairy Queen store opened in Illinois in 1940. Yes piggery, DQ is as old as Grandma apparently.
- Stories say Founder John Fremont McCullough and his son Alex did not like eating frozen ice cream. They believed that ice cream was best eaten soft-served
- They asked their friend Sherb Noble to sell DQ in his store and it was a hit.
- JF McCullough often referred to the cow as the "queen of dairy business". Ergo the name DAIRY QUEEN stuck
- The curl on top of the soft serve is a DQ trademark and is known as the "Q"
- DAIRY QUEEN is owned by International Dairy Queen Inc a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway who also owns Orange Julius and Karmelkorn
- In the Philippines, DQ opened in 2006.
- Philippine Pizza Inc (PPI Holdings) is the franchisee of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Dairy Queen in the country
COFFEE & MILK TEA CRAWL
5th Stop
Last Friday despite the threat of Super Typhoon Ompong hanging over our heads, I found myself in a grab car with a fellow foodie friend enroute to our Coffee & Milk Tea Crawl sponsored by SM City Sucat with TigaSouthKaBa
Assembly time was 10 am at the Admin bldg of the mall. We were 10 selected foodies in all. After the briefing we started the event. DQ was the 5th stop among a total of 10 coffee shops that day.
DQ served us the following...
Gravity-defying Ice Cream
It is fascinating to know that 1) the iconic gravity-defying ice cream named Blizzard is a millenial too haha. It was "born"or introduced in DQ's menu in 1985 2) A St. Louis business man named Sam Temperato conceptualized Blizzard inspired by Drewe's a locally-owned custard stand operation in the same area
To date this "upside down" ice cream still fascinates and remain one of DQ's all time best selling product
DQ also served us their Frappes - coffee blended with creamy DQ vanilla soft serve, your favorite flavor topping garnished with whipped topping.
Small P65 Medium P109
They are available in five. variants ie OREO, CAPPUCCINO, MOCHA, DOUBLE COCOAL FUDGE MOOLATTE AND CHEESECAKE MOOLATTE
Overall...
In the midst of all this caffeine-chocolate-milk overdose, I suddenly realized I missed my piggery. After all this is their happy place.
If you ever find yourself in the area, do check out DQ. They are located at the ground floor of SM City Sucat just across French Baker.
Thank you SM City Sucat and DQ for having us and TigaSouthKaBa for the invite.
