PLANET GRAPES

Pinoy Street Food meets wine? That  was enough to pique the curiosity of my sis-in-law who is on vacay here from the land down under.

So we tried the following  with our wine :

Potato Chips with Truffle and Parmesan P245
Always a hit with the piggery no matter which version . Planet Grapes was not an exception. This dish is a crowd pleaser

GRILLED PORK CHOP P390
French cut grilled pork chop that were juicy, meaty and substantial enough for one of the piggery. It does not hurt either that the presentation was pleasing to the eye.

SUNRICE
Beef  Tenderloin Tapa P395
A local favorite at breakfast, we were all happy one can order this all day. The meat was juicy and flavorful.  The rice and egg were ok as well. It was a solid dish with no surprises.

BEEF SHANK  KALDERETA P645

It was like our local version of  beef bourguignon which is a favorite. The beef shank were melt-in-your-mouth, the bone marrow was rich and sinful and the dark sauce was so flavorful.  The only drawback was that  you will  crave for bowls of rice to go with it

KEBABS

I cant seem to find it in the menu. At any rate , it was delicious.  The pork were tender and paired well with the grilled green and red bell pepper. The serving was generous and you will love it with rice.

Mac & Cheese

Spaghettini and Meatballs P315
Familiar and simple , this is our go-to-order when we want comfort food that is filling and satisfying. Planet Grapes version is just that

Sapin Sapin with Salted Egg Sauce P215

Just one look and we were all set to attack this delectable-looking dish with lava-ish salted egg sauce.  Planet Grapes just elevated this ubiquitous local "kakanin" to gourmet levels. Yum!

Turon Trilogy P165

A play on our our much-loved local turon, almost a deconstruction if you will.

Planet grapes used filo pastry instead of the usual lumpia wrapper to wrap the  sweet saba and ube halaya in.  The trilogy of turon is then set on a bed of jackfruit coulis.  The flavor and aroma  of jackfruit was strong and perfectly complimented the turon.

What is a "coulis"?  Coulis is a thin fruit or veg puree used as a sauce ( wikipedia)

Overall,   it was an enjoyable lunch spent  bonding  over glasses of wine with the sister-in-law and family. We were not able to try the pairing thing though  and just stuck with our white wine.

Oh well, gives us more reason to return then hehe. Definitely visiting PG again soon...
