I am glad there is a new place in Mandaluyong quite near the family abode which serves delicious home-made food and baked goodies.
From Burlingame California to Manila
FAMILY FAVORITES KITCHEN from its name alone evokes images of simplicity, comfort food and homey feels.
The restaurant itself is new , not even a month old yet. It is just the right size for a fledgling restaurant. Its location is just a stone's throw away from Jolibee along Pioneer Street.
One is greeted with the familiar cement floors with mosaic tiles , mason jars lighting, wood slats for a wall which seems de rigeur nowadays. Most of the restaurants Ive been to sport the same look. I can understand why. Rustic meets industrial.
I love their wood tables with natural grain patterns so perfect for flatlay.
Interesting to note that originally FAMILY FAVORITES KITCHEN started in Burlingame California purely as a bakery. It has since closed when the Guerrero family moved back to the Philippines.
Before opening FFK, they were already supplying popular shops with their pastries and other baked goodies. Rita's funny brownie ala mode is supplied by FFK for example.

THE MENU
Note how simple the menu is above. Almost all the dishes were less than P200. What was remarkable was although the items in the menu were nothing fancy, the quality of the ingredients were evident and the care and love that went in its creation no matter simple, was tasted and felt.
That Longgamisa Aglio Olio for example was simple yet delicious . The flavors and textures were bang on.
The Francesinha Sandwich P220 is a must-try. Its good for sharing. Literally translated it means "little frenchie". Per Wikipedia, its a carry over of the Portuguese diaspora to France. Its actually the Portuguese version of the Croque Monsieur that is more familiar to us.
It was quite a hefty sandwich. FFK's version had ham, sausage, beef belly, fontina cheese, egg and beer gravy
Arroz Caldo literally translated means hot rice . Although the name is Spanish in origin, the recipe is purely Chinese from Chinese congee per wikipedia. At any rate we also call it lugaw. FFK's lugaw is spot on and a perfect comfort food during gloomy weather.
Are you a breakfast person? If you are, you will love it at Family Favorites Kitchen. "All Day Breakfast" are my favorite words. FFK's Baconsilog P130 is yum. Bacon were crispy. Eggs were cooked just right and the fried rice was delicious
CornedBeefSilog P150 was another favorite.
You like tapsilog? They have it here at FFK all day too. They used sirloin for their tapa. It was sweet, juicy and tender and just cost P160
Longsilog P150 was sweet which I liked. It contrasted nicely with the vinegar and the saltiness of the sunny side up eggs
LISA ROSSITER AND HER HOME-BAKED GOODIES
Amazing home-baked goodies from this self-taught baker. My favorites were Lisa's chocolate crinkles and fudge brownies.
Of course the star of the show is her 4 cheese ensaymada. People who love cheese can relate. Just the smell of those babies was enough to make this cheese-fiend happy. I took home a piece by the way. I just put that golden pastry in the oven toaster for a minute or two just to wake up the cheese. The aroma of the toasting cheese was heavenly. The ensaymada was fluffy and the cheese were amazing.
The experience was akin to dining in a neighborhood restaurant were the owners are your friends and where the food is familiar and delicious.
It does not hurt that the items in the menu are below the P200 range
Considering the quality of the ingredients and the serving portions, their prices were more than fair.
Do not forget to bring home their 4 cheese ensaymadas. They were really good. Ir paired well with coffee supplied by Allegro
Definitely returning with the piggery in tow.
