Skewered

SKEWERED - verb meaning to fasten with a long pin of wood or metal for
inserting through meat or other food in cooking

Did you know that there is a gem of  a restaurant waiting to be discovered in  the Festival Mall in Alabang?

Their concept is really interesting. Their specialty is Pan-Asian and their thrust is to serve authentic Asian food from Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Malaysia, China Korea , etc.  How does the skewered name dovetail to the overall concept? Here is their reply

"Skewered wants the Filipino people to be able to sample the best authentic food that Asia has to offer without having to personally travel to all those countries (Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Korea etc)

Our food  is as much as possible, authentic and not adapted, but instead we selected those authentic dishes that we believe suit the Filipino palate whilst being able to provide authentic flavors to our valued customers.

We believe that in culinary terms what binds the Asian people together is the love of skewers. Every Asian country has their unique version of skewers and we've all grown up eating them. In the Philippines, they are called BBQ but as we are not a Filipino restaurant, we the interational word "skewers".

Our dishes are made with more than 75 kinds of imported spices using the best secret recipes gathered from all over Asia "  - Skewered Ph

APPETIZERS

CRISPY CHICKEN TENDERS
Japanese-style fried chicken with pickledcucumber & carrots, romaine lettuce and
fresh herbs, served with our signaturesalted egg sauce, hot sauce & minced freshgarlic
This is one among many favorites in Skewered's menu. Chicken was crispy outside but stayed juicy and moist inside. I loved that I can make a lettuce sandwich out of it just like one does in Korean dishes. I added some salted egg sauce on my karaage then wrapped it all up nicely in that fresh green lettuce. So good!

FRESH VIETNAMESE SPRING ROLLS
Shrimp, vegetables, rice vermicelli noodles wrapped in Vietnamese rice wrapper, fresh
herbs and crushed peanuts, served with hoisin, Nuoc Cham and hot sauce

I really love the crisp, "clean" taste of  the Fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls. Our Vietnamese friend based in Australia made us her spring rolls from scratch when we were there last Christmas and I can say that Skewered's  version is as authentic

SALADS

ASIAN SLAW P188
Slaw of red, green, and Chinese cabbage, romaine lettuce, orange slices & edamame,
with citrus-sesame soy dressing

I loved that it was only P188 . I enjoyed the inclusion of orange slices, edamame and the citrus sesame soy dressing that rounded all the flavors cohesively

MANGO KANI SALAD P188
Shredded romaine lettuce, cucumber, carrots, kani, fresh mangoes, Japanese
mayonnaise, ebiko & wasabi toast
The greens were crunchy and fresh. The mangoes were sweet and juicy . I loved the Japanese mayo and ebiko. For its price, it was value for money
SOUPS
SOUR THAI TOM YAM SOUP
A soup which balances the sourness from lime, freshness from kaffir lime, ginger and lemongrass and a touch of chili for a small kick of heat without being too spicy. Served with a choice of homemade Asian style shrimp, pork or chicken meatball skewers.
It had the perfect balance of sour, sweet, spicy.  What a great starter.
JAPANESE MISO SOUP
Yellow miso broth with silken tofu, wakame with
skewered quail egg-enoki mushroom tempura
It was a sweet (ish) kind of miso soup  quite different from what Im used to but it was scrumptious. The skewered quail-egg enoki mushroom tempura married well with the  soup.

sweetness. For those who prefer their food spicy, there's chili flakes
served on the side.
This was another memorable dish for me. Im a noodles-person so this was a no brainer.

DESSERTS

MANGO BANANA MALAY ROTI P249
Ripe mangoes & lakatan banana wrapped in roti, topped with coconut cream
sauce and crushed peanuts
It looked like crepe from afar so I was pleasantly surprised that it was roti after all.  Per Wikipedia, Roti is  a flatbread  made from stoneground wholemeal flour. It is a regular staple in India, Pakistan, Nepal,Sri Lanka,Singapore, Maldives, Malaysia and Bangladesh

I loved the contrast of the sweet mango vis a vis the lakatan. The coconut cream added a richness to the whole ensemble while the crush peanuts provided the much needed crunch.

BANANA FRITTERS P219
Deep-fried saba banana sprinkled with toasted white & black sesame
seeds, langka strips and vanilla ice cream sprinkled with dried coconut

The sweet deep fried saba was sweet. The toasted white and black sesame seeds provided the texture and nutty component. I loved how the langka strips provided another layer of  unique flavor. The vanilla ice cream rounded all the flavors together .

Location:

It was my first time in the expansion wing of Festival Mall and I was amazed how beautiful it was there. Skewered  is located by the Water side.  It took us a while to find it. Perhaps some directional sign  from the entrance of the mall or a map would help future patrons in locating the restaurant easily.

Ambiance
The  restaurant was beautiful evoking sea voyage and the quest for spice . The glossy wood, the boat like structure where lights hanged from the ceiling, the round port hole all echoed this concept

Food and Price :

Food was delicious and the price reasonable considering  their portions.
