Celebrated our son's birthday here per his request.
Among all the Japanese restaurants in the metro we have been to, Kikufuji reminds us most of our trip in the land of the ninjas.
Perhaps, it is the restaurant's simplicity. Perhaps it is its vibe. Although huge inside, it evokes a hole-in-the-wall (ish) feels much like the ones we experienced in Tokyo.
Maybe it is because most of the habitues are Japanese. Perhaps because its sashimi are so fresh and of good quality just like the ones we tasted in Kuromon market in Osaka and Tsukiji Fish Market.
Whatever it is, Izakaya Kikufuji transports us to our happy moment in the land of the rising sun.
CHIRASHI DON P568
Per Wikipedia "Chirashi" literally means "scattered". So chirashi bowl is basically several ingredients mostly sashimi or veggies scattered over rice in a bowl. In Kikufuji, Chirashi Don is a rainbow of sashimi scattered artfully over a delicious bowl of Japanese rice. It was delectable simply because the fatty tuna, the octopus, the salmon, the prawn , salmon roe , etc are so fresh they tasted sweet of the ocean. The gohan aka Japanese rice is of superior quality as well.
I was so enraptured by all its flavors and textures, I didnt notice I was 3/4 thru my bowl. So much for my diet hahaha or should I say huhuhu
IZAKAYA KIKUFUJI is located at Little Tokyo 2277 Chino Roces Avenue Legaspi Village Makati. Please call 028937319 for reservation. Note that they are almost always fully booked.
