Traditional. Home-made. Classic. Comfort Food
These are the three words that came to mind when together with other foodies, we trouped to no. 2 Dr. Lazcano corner Scout Magbanua and Mother Ignacia St upon the invitation of Ms. Irene of Little Winehaus for a cross-order experience among 6 restaurants. Kusina Juan Republika is one of the participating restaurants.
Kusina Juan Republika's food is pretty simple and straightforward. Think recipes that your lola or mom used to make.
Last Wednesday, we enjoyed the following dishes :
CRISPY GARLIC PATA P515
Deep fried then topped with chili garlic sauce and
served with atchara and pata sauce
When it comes to crispy pata . the skin should be crunchy while the meat and fat
inside retains its softness and moistness from boiling to tenderize the meat. Deep frying
is done to just crisp up the pork skin. KJR cooked theirs to perfection.
BANDEHADO SET 4 P495 Good for 3 persons
Fried Chicken, Pork BBQ, Crispy Spicy Hito and Steamed Rice
This is a good deal. Serving was enough for 3 people. I loved the crispy hito best.
GISING GISING P170
Fresh sigarilyas with ginger, chilis and pork sauteed
in coconut milk. I loved that the dish had a little kick
to it from the red chili pepper.
SISIG ALA PAMPANGA P195
Grilled pork with fresh onions, chicken liver and chili peppers
KJR's sisig was crunchy and flavorful
Summary :
People in Quezon City are pretty lucky to have KJR in their midst. Food is simple and hearthy and price is reasonable. KJR pretty much left the classics in their original state. Terms such tweaks, twist and deconstruction are unheard of here
So if you have balilkbayan relatives and friends who miss their lola's cooking, bring them at KJR. You can not go over the budget here.
