Floating Island Revisited

These are the key words that come to mind when you  learn how the  restaurant came about and when you taste their delicious fare. I remember this was my first invite from Zomato for a foodie meet up (fmu) 7 months ago.

Yes this is a branch of that iconic almost nondescript dining place in Makati Med hospital which still exists to date, going on 49 years later.

Thanks to Zomato and Mr. Alex Revilla (owner) , we discovered first hand the reasons behind the restaurant's staying power.

When you order their specials , you get a taste of how classic the dishes are. These are recipes that they have been cooking almost half a century ago! Mind boggling isnt it? !

Now I know where to bring those balikbayan relatives who can not relate to Pinoy fusion restos

Here when you order kare-kare, you get the old-fashioned kare-kare that is not deconstructed nor crispy. It's your lola's kare-kare. The tripe could use a little more cooking time to make it more tender than it is yes but overall it was good and the price friendly on the pocket. .One order can feed 2-3 . P470

Fried boneless Bangus came from Dagupan and was a little breaded. They were huge and can feed 2-4 people. P630

Pinalutong na hito was simply deep fried and accompanied by ensaladang mangga. Can feed 2-4. P410

Crispy pata's crackling was malutong and the meat tender. The portions were generous and can feed 2-4 P690

Pansit Maria's noodles ( P260) were quite interesting. They were pale and almost looked like those of pad thai but thinner and more delicate. I liked it a lot. Can feed 1-2 people

Gising gising ( P150) was good but could use a little more kick. Maybe more sili? Can feed 2-4

Adobong rice ( P380)was so good naubos agad. Can feed 2-3

Buko pandan P120 was good. I loved the presentation in a martini glass.

Gambas P350
Although this dish was delicious, it was expensive. Portions are really miniscule for its price.

Fried chicken skin P150 - good crunch and generous portion. Can feed 2-4

Coffee jello P125 with vanilla ice cream on top. I like anything with coffee so this was a no brainer.

Service : attentive yet unobtrusive

Ambiance: cozy and informal

All in all  Floating Island's food is as delicious as I remembered it the first time I was there 7 months ago. Still reasonably-priced and consistently tasty.

No wonder people who experienced Floating Island Restaurant from way back in 1969 can not  help but return with their children initially and now with their apos and the grandchildren's own kids in tow. Floating Island Restaurant became a part of their family tradition

49 years and counting ..... amazing!
