Mio Gelati

I love desserts  and I am always on the look out for new concepts that will excite my inner  sweet tooth.  An invitation from a dessert place  therefore was a heaven sent opportunity. One that obviously I would not have the heart to pass up.

So last November 10, I hied off  with  fellow foodie-writer-unica  to Vertis North to attend Mio Gelati's grand launch. At first I thought it was one of those international franchise that teemed the metro. Happy to learn that it was a home-grown business. Hurray for local businesses!

Per Ms.Celina Nolasco (owner), Mio Gelati  (roughly translated means My Gelato) started in weekend bazaars several years before. Then this year, they were offered a space by Ayala Malls. Hard work and perseverance paid off.  MG showed a lot of creativity too with exciting concepts as follows:

Smoresicles P80

Apart from the gelato, they also created this new dessert called , smoresicles P80.  Think marshmallow on a stick with surprise chocolate gelato filling. Mr. Hans R&D Manager of MG, demonstrated how they torched the marshmallow first before serving.  The smell of the roasting marshmallow was unbelievable.   The first bite  lets you experience the thick marshmallow. Another bite  and you will taste the blend of  the marshmallow with the chocolate gelato. It was good. However just a personal preference, I would have liked  a thinner marshmallow. Moreover, the size was too big for me. I wish they can offer  perhaps half of the original smoresicle as an option.

Gelato Shake:

They have 5 variants at the moment.  But per Mr. Hans, the target will be at least one new flavor every month.

Fruitopia  - Ms. Celine's favorite. It  was made of cereal milk with fruit loops. This was a fun gelato shake and something a sweet tooth would love.

Fudgelatto -  chocolate gelatto shake with whip cream on top

Unicorn and Ferrerush

Caramellos with Biscoff and Marshmallows -  I loved the texture provided by the Biscoff

Verdict :

All in all a fun experience.  Im a dessert person so I was actually thrilled that apart from the gelato, there are  the exciting smoresicles and gelato shakes to order.  Looking forward to returning with the piggery in tow.
