Mulberry Door

Its my kind of place. An unabashedly proud Tita (of Manila), I can already visualize myself hanging out here with the girlfriends , sipping some wine while catching up on the latest chika amidst a posh and luxe surrounding.

It can be a date place too for those couples who want some “us” time in an intimate setting.

Lest I be misconstrued, it is not a fine dining place, though. You do not need to dress up to the nines or wear your suit to dine here. Smart casual will do.

The ambiance is elegant with a hint of shabby chic. Upon entering its heavy door, you feel the welcoming vibe of the restaurant.

Yesterday along with other foodie friends, we enjoyed the following dishes :

Caesar Salad with Parmesan crisps P290

I love the dressing and the large pieces of parmesan cheese and sun dried tomatoes. The greens were crunchy and fresh

Coq Au Vin with rice or mashed potato P450

Per Wikipedia, Coq au  vin is a French dish of chicken braised with wine lardons, mushrooms and optionally garlic. Mulberry’s Coq Au Vin was  delicious. The chicken was moist. The mash was silky. The presentation was simple. It is a bit pricey though for a quarter chicken

mulberrychocolatecake-1973222 What Pigoutsundays loved :

1. I loved the salad. Perfect start for Titas and girlfriends who are watching what they eat. It can pair well with white wine too.The greens were fresh and crisp. The salad dressing did not overpower. The crisp bacon strips and parmesan shavings provided the saltiness to balance the flavor of the dish.

2. The Porcini Penne was a delight. The pasta was al dente. The sauce was just right. I can finish one order by myself with a glass of white wine.

3.Lemon Tartlets were a wonderfully delicious ending to a rich and heavy meal. It had just the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness which I adored. I was so tempted to buy a box to take home hahaha.

What Pigoutsundays loved less :

1. Prawns Thermidore Au Gratin P590 – I thought it was lasagna. It looked like lasagna all yellow and red in a cast iron pan. What I loved about it was its cheesy richness. What interrupted the experience were the potato cubes. Perhaps if the cheesy potatoes where thinly sliced like the Au Gratin I know, and if the prawns were succulent and not overcooked I would have loved it. As it was, I just took a small bite and that settled it for me. No more seconds.

2. Crab Fat Paella P590 – What threw me was the presentation. There were okras, slices of squash, red sili on a bed of red-orange rice. My first thought was – Pakbet Paella ? ! Only to find out a second later that it was Crab Fat Paella. It was just ok for me. I was looking for the richness of the taba ng talangka but I didnt find it in the dish.

3. Cream Cheese Brownie (P240) – The simple presentation was nice. I loved how the dark chocolate ganache or glaze (?) was shiny and smooth. The red strawberry provided a dramatic contrast to the velvety black chocolate frosting. The brownie though was more cakey than fudgy. It was ok for me I guess. This dessert was overshadowed by a mile by the wonderfully sunshiny and tangy Lemon Tartlets.

Would I go back here ? Most definitely. I am excited to try the other culinary creations listed in the menu.

Definitely dragging the handsome hubby here on one of our monthly date nights hehehe.
