Curious about the drawing in their wall, I asked Ms. Ruby (Marketing Director ) what the story was behind the name Bluesmith and how it dovetails to the anvil art on the wall.
The explanation was simple. Anvil is an ancient tool used by blackmiths of yore for their artisanal craft. Bluesmith is the equivalent of a blacksmith in the kitchen. They serve home made, artisanal, made from scratch meals.
Last Thursday October 11, togerther with some foodie friends, we enjoyed the following dishes from Bluesmith :
Beef Tapa P310
Sweet beef tapa, sunny side up egg, toasted garlic and steamed white rice
The tapa was indeed sweet and went well with the vinegar dip. The rice was the sticky kind which I loved. The egg was perfect. The portion of the beef was exactly for one person.
Smoked Milk Fish Belly P340
The serving size of the bangus was huge. It was fresh and delicious. I loved the richness of the milkfish belly. I will order this again
Tenderloin Beef Salpicao P410
Although it tasted delicious and the beef is beautifully tender, the portions are really small for one order and therefore on the pricey side.
Wagyu Beef Burger Steak P410
There is no question that the Wagyu burger is delicious. I loved the caramelized onion and the generous gravy. The portion though was a bit small.
Chorizo Kesong Puti Pasta P330
In keeping with their artisanal theme, even their pasta are made from scratch per Ms. Ruby. The Linguini was al dente. I loved the combination of the rich Spanish chorizo, sauteed tmato and kesong puti. This is value for money.
Dark Choco Churro Waffle P260
I loved the deep dark chocolate color of the waffle. It was chewy and smelled strongly of chocolate which was enticing. It was paired well with a dollop of whip cream. I would have paired it with ice cream or smothere it in butter and maple syrup while hot.
Apple Cucumber Cold Pressed Juice
Those who do not like caffeine in the morning have the option to choose cold pressed juices from the menu. I ordered their apple cucumber juice. I appreciated that the drink only contain the apple and cucumber. No sugar syrup was added. I love it. I felt healthy almost immediately
Summary :
The food was good. I just have a problem with some items and their portions. The ambiance was bright and airy. The focal point is the bar where the juices and coffee are freshly prepared.
The service was topnotch under the baton of Ms. Ruby.
Bluesmith is a welcome change from the same-old-same-old predictable restaurants found in malls.
